Bilingualism, Multiculturalism Commission : First Regional Branches Operational in 2020

The Chairman of the National Commission for the Promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism disclosed the action plan for 2020 on December 17, 2019.
Members of the National Commission for the Promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism (NCPBM) during the commission’s second ordinary session for 2019 on December 17, 2019 adopted the action plan for 2020.
As stated by the Chairman of the Commission, Peter Mafany Musonge in his opening statement, one of the key actions is “getting the first regional branches effectively operational by the first quarter of 2020.” This action is proposed following the first phase of the missions carried out to identify the premises that would host the regional branches of the Commission in the North West, West, Littoral, South West and South Regions. He said, “these field missions enabled the Commission to have an idea of the structures which the regional services would occupy as from January 2020 depending on the available budget.”
Other key aspects of the Commission’s action plan for 2020 include: reviving the listen to the people mission in the remaining eight regions; stepping up follow-up missions on the sound implementation of constitutional provisions on the practice of bilingualism in public entities where certain officials appear still not to have fully measured the stakes and challenges that the promotion of bilingualism represents. The commission also plans to formalise collaboration with some civil society organisations. Mr Mafany Musonge urged the commission members to retain activities that should effectively contribute to fast-tracking living together and the promotion of bilingualism and multiculturalism as desired by the President of the Republic, Paul Biya.
