National Assembly : New Members Elect Dominate

Some 95 out of the 167 candidates declared elected Members of the National Assembly were not present in the outgone ninth legislative period of the House.
Cameroon’s National Assembly will in the about to begin 10th legislative period be dominated by new faces who were either not present in the ninth legislative period or have never been Members of the National Assembly.
Following the results of the February 9, 2020 election of Members of the National Assembly, the Constitutional Council proclaimed on Friday, February 28, 2020, there are over 95 new faces. This number is bound to increase when election rerun ordered in 11 constituencies by the Constitutional Council must have taken take and all the 180 Members of the House in place as enshrined in the Constitution.
The presence of new faces is partly owing to the new political parties that have won seats in the National Assembly for the first time. The noticeable case is that of the Cameroon Party for National Reconciliation (PCRN) that won five seats, Cameroon National Salvation Front (FSNC) that won three seats, Union of Socialist Movement (UMS) two seats and the Movement for the Defence of the Republic (MDR) that increased its score from one seat in the ninth legislative period to two in the 10th legislative period that is about to begin.
The Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) that has so far won, 139 of the declared seats, has greatly revamped its presence by invigorating its lists with new blood. In the Centre Region, for example where the CPDM won seats in the remaining constituencies but for the three seats in Nyong et Kelle won by the newcomer, PCRN, 11 new members in its lists.
