Tiko : Cholera Cases Under Control

One patient has died and 11 others are out of danger.

With only two cases confirmed so far, the fear of cholera outbreak has gripped Tiko, the gateway into the South West Region from Douala. It happened that on the 14th of February, 2020 three persons returning from visiting their relations in Manoka, an Island of the Douala City, started showing symptoms of vomiting, diarrhoea and physical weakness. They were immediately interned in the Tiko District Hospital. Later cases arrived on 21 and 22 February all manifesting the same symptoms and still from Manoka through the Tiko wharf. 
The District Medical Officer, Dr. Youmbi Andre, ensured their specimens were taken and diligently sent to Laquaintinie Hospital in Douala. “But even if it is only one case we have to declare an epidemic when it concerns cholera”, Dr. Youmbi told this reporter. The most recent case came in last 26 February, 2020, raising the number of cholera suspects to 12. This is one of the locally contaminated cases. the lone deceased case, a four-year-old girl, who succumbed in the night of 21 breaking 22 February, 2020, was also locally contaminated by those who came from Manaoka.  
In the face of the situation, the South West Regional Delegate for Public Health has ordered the reinforcement of the staff in the Tiko District Health Centre. As Camero...
