Post-electoral Disputes : Public Hearing Begins Today

A total of 12 petitions filled by the Social Democratic Front (SDF) will be examined by the Constitutional Council this April 2, 2020.

The Constitutional Council will today April 2, 2020 begin the public hearing on 12 petitions filled in relation to election operations for the March 22, 2020 partial legislative election in the North West and South West Regions. All 12 petitions were filled by the Social Democratic Front (SDF) calling on the total cancellation of the voting process. Of the twelve petitions, two separate petitions filled by Joseph Mbah Ndam and Edena Enih Mbah are praying the Council to annul the March 22, 2020 legislative election in the Momo East Constituency of the North West Region. Mezam North, Bui South, Bui West, Mechum South, Bui Centre, Mezam Centre, Mezam South, Menchum North, Momo West constituencies of the North West Region and Lebialem Constituency in the South West Region equally have petitions tabled by the SDF on grounds of what they termed electoral irregularities. 
According to their appeals, the SDF says polling stations drawn up by Elections Cameroon were far from the electorate and coupled with the security challenges in the two regions, voters could not go to the polls. The objections of the SDF are essentially Elections Cameroon, the Ministry of Territorial Administration and the Cameroon People’s Democratic Party.
