Coronavirus : Douala Council Implements Response Plan

Douala Council and the six subdivisional councils in Wouri Division of Littoral Region are not left out in nationwide efforts to contain the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic. Talking to Cameroon Tribune in Douala on April 30, 2020, Dr Solle Geremie, the First Deputy Mayor of Douala Council, said as soon the pandemic broke out, they and the six subdivisional councils produced a response plan.
It seeks to break the transmission chain of the Coronavirus through sensitisation, ensure the continuation of economic activities in the city, provide support to treatment centres such as water and electricity, and offer assistance in the burial of Coronavirus victims. In this light, 460 square metres have been set aside in the Bois des Singes Cemetery, Bonapriso, Douala, for the internment of Coronavirus victims. “We are also producing coffins for the purpose, given that victims of Coronavirus are buried as soon as possible,” Dr Solle explained.
As support to the implementation of the Coronavirus response plan, the United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund, UNICEF is to offer 100,000 face masks to Douala Council and the six subdivisional councils in Wouri Division, the First Deputy Mayor disclosed.
