Stabilisation of Lake Chad Region: German Government Increases Financial Support

Its contribution to the Regional Stabilization Facility for Lake Chad has been stepped up to 40 million euros, approximately FCFA 26, 2 billion.

The German embassy in Cameroon in a communiqué has stated that the German government has released an additional contribution of 15 million euros, approximately FCFA 9, 8 billion to the Regional Stabilization Facility (FSR) for the Lake Chad region. With the planned payment of an additional amount in 2021, Germany's support for the FSR will amount to 40 million euros (FCFA 26, 2 billion).

Going by the press release signed in September, the main objective of the assistance is to improve security, restore critical infrastructure damaged and provide livelihoods to communities affected by violent conflict in the Lake Chad region. The programme works closely with the communities of Cameroon, Chad, Niger and Nigeria. In Cameroon, the stabilisation programme operates in two communities in Amchidé and Limani with plans of extending to Maya Moskota, Fotokol and Blangoua in the coming months, all in the Far North Region.
