Electoral Materials : Campaign Of Serigraphers

Serigraphers whose work is to produce the campaign gadgets have for some time now been at the centre of attraction. This is because the attractiveness of any list be it for the category of Delegates of Division or the category of traditional rulers will depend not only on their manifestos but importantly on their mobilisation prowess demonstrated through campaign gadgets. For this reason, political parties and candidates have spent huge resources to produce campaign gadgets such as T-shirts, caps, badges, mufflers, cloth, placards, banners, circulars right to pens. The Electoral Code in Section 87 (2) states that, “Candidates may prepare circulars, manifestos or posters, at their own expense or that of the party presenting their candidature.”
As one walks round the capital city Yaounde, he will hardly notice any hustling and bustling at serigraphic shops. Some of the serigraphers contacted explained that since the election of Regional Councillors does not concern many people and the popular masses, it is difficult for them to make money through the production of campaign gadgets.
Political party officials however talk of their deep involvement in the production of campaign gadgets. The Director of the National Union for Democracy and Progress (NUDP) headquarters, Kuma Peter Kombain told Cameroon Tribune that the party’s campaign gadgets and materials are intact.
