Senate : Six Bills Tabled

This was during a plenary sitting of November 19, 2020 chaired by the Senior Vice President of the Senate, Aboubakary Abdoulaye.

Some six bills have been tabled for scrutiny at the Senate. There were tabled on November 19, 2020 during a plenary sitting chaired Senior Vice President of the Senate, Aboubakary Abdoulaye.  The said bills span in areas of biosafety, migration issues between Cameroon and the Swiss Federal Council, police cooperation between Central African States, the settlement bill for 2019 and air transport. 
Bill No.148/PJL/SEN/2L seeks to authorize the President of the Republic to proceed with Cameroon’s accession to the Nagoya-Kuala Lumpur supplementary protocol on liability and redress to the Cartagena Protocol on biosafety, adopted at Nagoya, Japan on October 15, 2010. The agreement provides that parties should require operators to take response measures in the event of damage resulting from transboundary movement of living modified organisms. Cameroon’s accession to the protocol will enable the country to reinforce its normative mechanisms, put in place a framework conducive to trends in precautionary measures in order to protect its environmental, social, cultural and economic space.
The second bill (No.149/PJL/SEN/2L) authorizes the President of the Republic to ratify the agreement on migration issues between the government of Cameroon and the Swiss Federal Council, signed on September 26, 2014. The agreement aims to define cooperation in migration management between the two countries and facilities for nationals of both countries to enter and reside in each other’s territory while promoting the respect for the rights of irregular migrants. Its ratification by Cameroon will provide a legal instrument to check clandestine emigration and improve bilateral cooperation.
