Mali : ECOWAS Delegation In Bamako

The aim of the visit is to evaluate measures put in place by the Transitional Council.
A delegation of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), on Monday, January 11, 2021 arrived Bamako for a two-day visit. The mission led by former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, will during their 48 hours stay in the Malian capital, hold a series of meetings with the major stakeholders in the country. The first would be with members of the Transitional Council to evaluate measures put in place by the Transitional Council as recommended by ECOWAS after nearly a hundred days in command. It will also hold meetings with actors responsible for the organization of the presidential and legislative elections next year, meet with the political class and civil society actors who have been at the forefront before and after the departure of Ibrahim Boubacar Keita from power.
The mission of the Economic Community of West African States will also pay close attention to the local political situation. An official charter specifies that the Malian junta is dissolved after the installation of the institutions of the transition. But even though all the bodies are now operational, the military is still very present on the ground and in the offices.
