Mbanga Reeling From Violent Storm

There is no electricity, roof tops of houses and market stores destroyed and electric poles on the ground.

 

Inhabitants of Mbanga are yet to recover from the effects of a violent storm that occurred in the town on the night of April 13 breaking April 14. According to the Divisional Officer for Mbanga, Temboh Christine Nkefor, the destruction was enormous as the storm blew off roof tops at the market and private homes, pulled down several electric poles orchestrating a complete blackout in the city. The storm caused an interruption of traffic along the Bafoussam-Douala highway for over an hour as the road was littered with fallen electric poles and blown off roof tops. It took the contribution of the population to clear the road and restore traffic.

Though the commission set up by the Divisional Officer to evaluate the effects of the storm is still at the beginning of its duty, the first evaluation shows that 15 out of the 16 quarters of the town are still in darkness as ENEO has been able to restore lights only in one quarter. “At least 10 poles out of 40 in every quarter are down”, said the D.O. “And about 50 houses in every quarter are affected.
