Sports, Culture : Vectors For Preserving Lasting Peace

Parliamentarians on November 22, 2021 used the Parliamentary Action Day for Peace to learn the contribution of sports and culture to lasting peace.
Members of Parliament now better understand and can better advocate the pivotal role of sports and culture in the preservation of lasting peace in times of crisis and the Covid-19 pandemic. They shared knowledge and made recommendations to key societal stakeholders during the Parliamentary Action Day for Peace organised by the of International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace (AIPP)- Cameroon. The occasion took place in the presence of the Minister of Labour and Social Security, Gregoire Owona and other peace ambassadors in the country. It was organised on the theme, “The contribution of sports and culture in the preservation of lasting peace in time of crisis and the Covid-19 pandemic.”
Speaking during the opening ceremony, the Vice Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Abba Alim who represented the House Speaker, Hon. Cavaye Yeguie Djibril stated that humanity in general and Cameroon in particular was in quest for lasting peace considering the security challenges in Cameroon posed by Boko Haram terrorists in the Far North Region and the separatist fighters in the North West and South West Regions. He said Cameroon’s National Development Strategy 2020-2030 needs peace for its realisation. Hon. Abba Alim said sports and culture have become indispensable tools to bring together people for the sake of peace. Cameroonians, he stressed should use our cultural potentials to promote and preserve peace. The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Cameroon will host from January 9, 2022 to February 6, 2022 should serve as crusade for peace.
