New State Universities : Operational Measures Examined

The Minister of State, Minister of Higher Education, Jacques Fame Ndongo says government is fine-tuning all architectural, infrastructural, financial, judicial and managerial measures that will enable the State Universities of Bertoua, Ebolowa and Garoua, the President of the Republic, Paul Biya created on January 5, 2022  to effectively go operational.
The Higher Education Minister presented the measures during the cabinet meeting Prime Minister, Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute presided at on January 27, 2022. Before the presentations by the various Minister, the Prime Minister recalled the challenges, perspectives and guidelines the Head of State talked about in his New Year message to the nation on December 31, 2021. He asked the Ministers to include the directives in the roadmaps of their ministries for 2022 and submit the roadmaps to the Prime Minister’s Office latest February 21, 2022. 
Talking to the press after the cabinet meeting, Minister of State Fame Ndongo disclosed that the new State Universities were already opened. He explained that this was because two categories of institutions were already functioning before the creation of the State Universities. He mentioned the Higher Teachers’ Training College (ENS) Bertoua that was institutionally attached to the University of Ngaoundere, Higher Technical Teachers Training College of Ebolowa attached to the University of Yaounde I and the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences of Garoua attached to the University of Ngaoundere. With the creation of the State Universities, the institutions will continue functioning under the Universities where they are located. Higher Education Minister also mentioned annexes to some State universities that were also already functioning. Concerning the faculties created in the three State Universities, he said some could go operational in October- December 2022 and all the other faculties will open in the 2023/2024 school year.
