Trend Of Good Hope

Despite an unfortunate event that almost robbed us of the pride of hosting eventfully a 24- nation continental football fiesta, the 33rd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, marks one of the greatest success stories of, our country, Cameroon.

As we look forward to today’s semi-finals between two giants, the Pharaohs of Egypt and the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, there is hope that the success story will continue to unfold. Cameroonians have started preparing for celebrations of victory that would raise them to the 6th time winner of this coveted trophy, come 6 February 2022. We can, We will. Why not? 
Fifty years ago when Cameroon hosted the 8th edition of this African Continental tournament, the Lions lost to the Red Devils of Congo Brazzaville at the semis. Should this unpleasant surprise repeat itself this year? Cameroonians and their well-wishers believe it should not. Although it is football with the surprises that make it a game, and not a war, Cameroon’s soccer prowess on the continent of Africa is a cause for good hope that the unpleasant surprise of 1972 will not repeat itself. 
All we need is discipline, sense of responsibility and professional display by our squad whose output we deeply appreciate. They are after all, indomitable lions whose prowess had already been proven in 1984, 1988, 2000, 2002, and 2017, when they excelled and brought home the coveted trophy.
During their participations at these continental tournaments, the Lions reached the final in 1986 and 2008, and although they did not bring home the trophy they earned for the country a position that makes us proud.
During its 20th participation, this time at home, the Indomitable Lions, we believe, will not disappoint their compatriots. Cameroonians know they will not. Instead we all expect a pleasant moment which we are already set to celebrate.
