Denis Emilien Atangana : Ambitious Politician

At 34, he has an interesting political career of 10 years and is the National President of Cameroonians Democrat’s Front (FDC).

Denis Emilien Atangana is a young politician whose political aspirations began in his teenage days. He joined his first political party in 2012 and has since then been very active in the political landscape of Cameroon. Born on January 8, 1988 in Monatélé, Centre Region, he studied political science at the University of Yaounde II Soa and is a fellow of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) for Dakar, Senegal where he took a course on strategic public management. Denis Emilien Atangana got interested in politics while in secondary school as he participated in clubs and led social actions in school, always condemning corruption and the mismanagement of funds.
In 2012, he joined the Cameroon Renaissance Movement (CRM) party, a party he says he is a founding member and contributed in the legalisation of the official documents. As a member of CRM, and barely 25 years old, Denis Emilien Atangana headed the list at the Monatélé Council during the 2013 municipal and legislative elections. His list had a 41 per cent vote and was running against the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM). Due to conflict of views, he left the party shortly after to concentrate on civil society actions which led him to the creation of the Circle of Reflection and Actions for Development (CONRAD) in 2015. During the said period, Denis Emilien Atangana embarked on social projects like the rehabilitation of a bridge in his native Monabo village, the organisation of social events and peace caravans. He has jointly organised peace projects with the United States embassy and the Frederich Elbert Foundation.  In 2018, Denis Emilien joined the Liberal Alliance Party (PAL) of Célestin Bedzigui and was appointed Secretary General of the party, a position he occupied for 16 days and resigned from the party on the basis of divergence of views.
