Below is a press release from the Secretary General of the Central Committee.
The secretary general of the Central Committee of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, Mr Jean Nkuete,
"Since the beginning of social tension which has handicapped the smooth functioning of schools and Universities as well as law courts of the North West and South West Regions, the Cameroon People's Democratic Movement has never ceased promoting appeasement, while calling for positive and pragmatic dialogue in view of finding adequate solutions to the professional problems raised in respect of Republican legality.
In this regard, several missions of the Party have been dispatched on the field and the Secretary General of the Central Committee personally went to the field and met with militants, friends and sympathisers of the CPDM party, as well as compatriots of goodwill.
In Buea like in Bamenda, the Secretary General of the Central Committee delivered a message of appeasement while reiterating the call of the CPDM party for dialogue, for the personal and collective responsibility of all and the respect of Republican order in the search of appropriate solutions. Invoking the historical background of the construction of the State, the Secretary General of the Central Committee invited militants and the population to jealously ensure the preservation of its national unity which constitutes a fundamental and irresistible achievement, the measure of credibility of our country in the world, and ipso facto a master piece of its balance and durable development. Accordingly, he requested them never to loose site of the difficult experiences that Cameroon has gone through prior to independence and to remember the very painful experiences of certain countries when they inadvertently tried to jeopardise national unity. Furthermore, the Secretary General of the Central Committee of the CPDM party cautioned everyone against recuperation attempts and the transformation of teachers and lawyers' grievances for political gains by a minority group whose mode of functioning is based on misinformation, particularly via the social media, the creation of fear amongst the population, violence and threats of all kinds.
The evolution of the situation has unfortunately confirmed the fears of the CPDM party.
In effect, despite the measures taken by the government in response to some grievances of teachers and lawyers; especially, in spite of the high proclamation of the President of the Republic, National Chairman of the CPDM party, His Excellency Paul BIYA, who in his important message to the nation on December 31 2016, made foresighted analysis of the situation, clearly and undoubtedly reaffirming the unity of the nation and the indivisibility of the State, a deadlock hindered the negotiations. We then move from the categorical demands of teachers and lawyers to political rededications which questioned the unitary character of the state, which was henceforth put forward as a precondition for the pursuit of dialogue.
In the face of this dilemma, the Government was obliged to take measures in view of restoring state authority and guarantee the security of property and the population, while continuing dialogue with legally constituted, recognised and responsible trade unions.
Taking into consideration the new dispensation, the Secretary General of the Central Committee of the Cameroon People's Democratic Movement invites militants, friends and sympathizers of the CPDM party, and compatriots of goodwill in the North West and South West Regions, to overcome fear and resume their normal daily lifestyles while carrying out their normal and usual responsibilities, and above to send their children back to school, since all measures have been put in place by the Government to ensure security, peaceful living and tranquility in the two Regions. Consequently, he invites militants, friends an...
