Fight Against Cholera : Finding Lasting Solutions

The Ministers of Public Health, Water and Energy were in the South West yesterday to evaluate the situation.
Dr. Manouda Malachie, Minister of Public Health and Gaston Eloundou Essomba, Minister of Water Resources and Energy were in the South West on March 29, 2022, to evaluate the cholera situation that has been claiming lives especially in Limbe. The two Ministers visited the Buea Regional Hospital, Limbe Regional Hospital, Bota District Hospital Limbe and Tiko District Hospital which all serve as treatment centres. The Ministers also inspected a water catchment in Bolifamba (Mile 16) and the Mile 2 water treatment centre in Limbe where instructions were given to staff to better the water quality.
By Tuesday March 29, 2022, there were 2916 cases of cholera infection. From this number 61 deaths have been registered. Eko Eko Filbert, South West Regional Delegate for Public Health, said this episode of cholera in the South West Region is the most dreaded than previous cases. He indicated that cholera is a water born diseases. “Water is the main cause of the problem but again hygiene and sanitation is another cause,” he indicated. Eko Eko explained how they have intensified advocacy to see that the infected are treated free of charge and for people to know how to prevent it.
Bernard Okalia Bilai, South West Governor in a presentation of the cholera situation in a working session at the Limbe City Council Hall Down Beach said the situation is under control. He recalled a fundraising exercise that raised FCFA 3. 350 million and FCFA 15 million in pledges on March 22, 2022, all to fight Cholera. ...
