Medical Research Bill : Health Minister Explains Pertinence To Senators

The Minister of Public Health, Manaouda Malachi, has explained to members of the Committee on Production and Exchange of the Senate the importance of the bill relating to medical research involving human subjects in Cameroon. The Minister defended the legal instrument on April 5, 2022 in the presence of the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Relations with Assemblies, Bolvine Wakata.
An explanation of the Minister indicates that the bill lays down the principles and rules applicable to health research, in particular clinical trials and intervention studies, and seeks to protect persons involved in health research. According to the Minister, the document applies to research on human diseases and the structure and function of the human body, involving living persons, deceased persons, embryos and fetuses, biological material as well as health-related personal data. Right of participants to information and consent in medical research, special cases of medical research projects such as those conducted on vulnerable persons, medical research carried out in emergency situations and reuse, export and storage of biological materials, genetic data and non-genetic health related personal data are aspects which are well elaborated in the bill.
