The funeral took place at the Catholic Church Gardens in Limbe last Friday.
The Director of Cabinet at the Prime Minister's Office, Balungeli Confiance Ebune, sat in for the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute on April 8, 2022, in Limbe to bid farewell to officials of Ekondo Titi, who were ambushed and killed by unknown armed groups on March 2, 2022. South West Governor Bernard Okalia Bilai led the Regional authorities among sympathisers and family members at the ceremony organized in the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church Gardens in Limbe.
The three deceased whose caskets were displayed at the ceremony were late Mayor Nanji Kenneth Ene of the Ekondo Titi Council, the CPDM Section President, Hon. Ebeku Williams and Council staffer, Eyakwe Mukete. The three mentioned deceased were among those who had set out on March 2, 2022, for a meet the people's tour of Bekomo in Ekondo Titi Sub Division with their Divisional Officer and other top personalities of the area but were waylaid and seven of them killed. The misfortune stroked them while they were still on their way to Bekora as an improvised explosive blew off some vehicles of their convoy.
Following this sad incident, the Prime Minister Chief Dr Joseph Dion Ngute, on behalf of the State, dispatched his Director of Cabinet, Balungeli to Limbe, to personally represent the State during the funeral service. The host Priest, Rev. Father Herbert Nova led the ecumenical Service assisted by with Rev. Father Stephen Nnadi from the Bokwaongo Parish accompanied by Reverend Eyakwe Joseph of the Presbyterian Church. Rev. Niba described the deceased as heroes and described March 2, the day they died, as "a day of darkness." The chief celebrant said the "heroes sacrificed their lives for the sake of their people."
