Humanitarian Assistance : Cameroon Targets 2.6 Million People In 2022

The government of Cameroon and the humanitarian community have set out to raise 376 million US Dollars (almost FCFA 226 billion) to support some 2.6 million targeted people in the country who need life-saving protection and livelihood assistance this year 2022.  Statistics from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Cameroon indicate that overall 3.9 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance in Cameroon in 2022.
The Head of the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Cameroon, Karen Perrin presented the Humanitarian Response Plan. Cameroon, the plan states, continues to be impacted by three complex humanitarian crises that include the Lake Chad Basin conflict with the Boko Haram insurgencies, North West and South West socio-political and security crisis and the Central African Republic refugee crisis. The plan will be executed by 224 operational partners under the coordination of the State’s technical ministries. With 327 projects envisaged, the plan aims at supporting internally displaced persons, returnees, refugees and host communities. The humanitarian community prioritises life-saving assistance and protection interventions, and support livelihood and resilience building, to ensure people affected by crises can meet their basic needs.
The Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji who presided at the ceremony expressed government’s gratitude to the UN Systems Agencies and other technical partners for their multifaceted support.
