Seeking Solutions To Forced Movements In CAR : Stakeholders Deliberate Institutional, Normative Reforms

The meeting of technical experts in Yaounde targets more coordinated solidarity towards an estimated one million four hundred thousand CAR refugees in seven major countries.
External Relations Minister, Mbella Mbella on April 25, 2022 presided at the opening of a meeting of technical experts involved in the management of refugees, in prelude to Regional Ministerial Conference on Solutions to Forced Displacements due to the Crisis in the Central African Republic (CAR). The three-day conference (first of its kind at the sub-regional level of the continent) which ends on April 27, 2022 aims at mobilising major stakeholders (governments, humanitarian and development partners, regional economic communities) involved in seeking solutions to forced movements provoked by the crisis in the Central African Republic, to come up with a guideline for implementing identified actions. An estimated one million four hundred thousand CAR nationals are on forced displacements in seven major countries; Cameroon, Chad, Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan and South Sudan. Of the total number, Cameroon as at March 31, 2022 is host to some 345, 587 CAR refugees, mostly women, children and elderly persons, according to statistics presented by the Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji, at the conference.
The opening statement of Minister Mbella Mbella indicates that the Conference is a platform to chart mechanisms of reinforcing peace and security, humanitarian action and development. He noted that experts are critically reviewing the situation at the respective national levels to come up with sub regional strategies that will align with current economic and social context, and see to the promotion of international peace and security. While appreciating the efforts of President of the Central African Republic for a return to peace in the country and the United Nations Office for Refugees on the management of refugees, Minister Mbella Mbella mentioned the Tripartite Accord between Cameroon, UNHCR and CAR which is in accordance with international pact on refugees.
