International Labour Day : Roundtable Discussions To Animate Commemoration

The usual march past that characterise the day will not take place again this year nationwide.
Workers in the formal and informal sectors in the country nationwide will join their counterparts worldwide to observe the 136th edition of the International Labour Day on Sunday May 1, 2022. Activities will be carried out on the theme: “World of Work: Combating Covid-19, Safeguarding Jobs and Ensuring Productivity.”
Ahead of the D-Day, the Minister of Labour and Social Security, Grégoire Owona, in a press release revealed that given the prevailing health crisis and after consultations with Trade Union Organisations and Employer’s Associations, and faced with the complex health protocol and discipline requirements, it has been decided that the traditional May 1st worker’s March Past will not take place nationwide. In this light, the Minister of Labour and Social Security has called on stakeholders of the labour world to carry out information, awareness-raising and exchange-related activities in connection with the official theme. Also, any other celebrations should take place within limited committees in compliance with measures in force against the Covid-19 pandemic.
Taking into cognisance the instructions from the Minister of Labour and Social Security, various enterprises have coined celebrations around May 1st on roundtable discussions. Most companies have replaced the March Past period with debates and roundtable discussions.
