2022 Women’s AFCON : Lionesses Step Up Strategies

Less than two months to the start of the competition, the head coach, Gabriel Zabo, has summoned 26 players for a first training camp in Yaounde.

As the 2022 TotalEnergies AFCON in Morocco draws nearer, preparations have increased in the national women’s football team. Less than two months to the start of the competition, the head coach, Gabriel Zabo, has summoned 26 players for a first training camp in Yaounde. The list was made public on Friday May 13, 2022. On the list are three goalkeepers, nine defenders, seven midfielders and seven attackers. The training camp which is expected to run from May 21 to June 4, 2022 is made up of mostly home-based players. 
Out of the 26 players, seven are foreign-based while 19 others are playing in the Guinness Super League. Some young players have been called up notably Brenda Tabi Ebika and Confidence Mbu Bongben who have put up brilliant performances since the start of season.  Still in the attack there is Flora Kameni and in the midfield there is Genevieve Owona Mballa, captain of Awa FC. Most of the players called have been picked from Amazones FAP and Awa FC. Among the nine defenders there is France-based Messomo Frédrérique Eviang. All the three goal keepers are home-based.
