National Life : When Solidarity Is Non-negotiable!

Cameroonians have often demonstrated that irrespective of their socio-cultural and sometimes political differences, issues that touch on the sovereignty of the State are not bargained with.

Cameroon may be a deep-rooted culture and linguistically diversified country, but experience has shown that challenges notwithstanding, what unites the people is far beyond pockets of division. When issues of football, national security and others are at stake for instance, there is neither Anglophone nor Francophone and sometimes political inclinations are quickly forgotten for a one Cameroon whose citizens must stand united against a common enemy. 
The journey to this unity, whose golden jubilee is being celebrated tomorrow May 20, 2022, has been long and at times challenging, but peace-loving Cameroonians continue learning along the line to be one another’s keeper. Past happenings within the national territory have brought out the solidarity spirit in Cameroonians as if to tell the world how good oneness is, irrespective of differences in culture, language and even social standing. Real living together! 
The ongoing crisis in the North West and South West Regions has been one of such avenues where Cameroonians have come out to condemn atrocities and to show hospitality for fellow citizens fleeing barbarism and the reign of terror that characterise some parts of the restive regions. In effect, in the face of the close to six-year-old upheavals, the Head of State instructed the putting in place of an Emergency Humanitarian Assistance Plan for the North West and South West Regions, with a budget of FCFA 12.7 billion.  The government’s structured platform to address the urgent and essential needs of the populations living under such security threats or forced by insecurity to abandon the comfort of their homes and their activities got financing from the State budget, calls for national and international solidarity as well as assistance from development partners. Cameroonians from all walks of life chipped in their multifaceted contributions for the plan to record the successes it now boasts of.  
Visibly, the call for solidarity and generosity to finance the humanitarian assistance plan was not new to Cameroonians. A similar show of solidarity and generosity was recorded in the case of the humanitarian crisis caused by Boko Haram in the Far North region. In all of the plans, priority has always been on the protection of displaced persons, provision of food and basic needs, healthcare, education, the resumption of the economic and agricultural activities, housing, and the reconstitution of vital individual documents ...
