Profession Of Arms : Youths More And More Attracted

The open door days organised by the Ministry of Defence at the Yaounde 101 Military Airbase as part of commemorative activities leading up the National Day celebration on May 20, 2022 clearly demonstrated the enthusiasm and interest the youths have not only in admiring the defence and security forces but more importantly in joining the forces.
The young Anthony Dimitri Semengue who visited the exhibition stands of the various corps said he learned much about the functioning of the army, the commitment of the various forces in defending the national territory and that the military is at the service of everyone. He finally concluded that, “I hope to make my career in the forces when I will be bigger.” Just like Dimitri Semengue, youths manifested a lot of curiosity as they visited the exhibition stands. 
One would have thought that many youths in Cameroon would be scared by the profession of arms such as the army, the National Gendarmerie, Police and Penitentiary Administration considering the risks involved in the profession. At moment, the defence and security forces are engaged in fighting the Boko Haram terrorist sect in the Far North Region, the armed separatists in the North West and South West Regions.  Many soldiers who are in majority youths have died in the warfront, some have been mimed and some rendered physically and mentally disabled. Gendarmes and Police elements on their part, are exposed to all sorts of hazards that at times lead to their deaths as they try to maintain law and order in many parts of the country.
All these risks and hazards have not deterred youths from forging ahead to realise their ambition to make careers in professions of arms. This is testified by the tens of thousands of youths who register during the recruitment examinations into the military, National Gendarmerie, National Security, Penitentiary Administration and even the Customs administration which is a para-military force.
