Preserving Social Cohesion : Senate Supports All Government Measures

Senate President Marcel Niat Njifenji on June 7, 2022 presided at the opening plenary sitting of the House for the second ordinary session of the 2022 legislative year.

The President of the Senate, Marcel Niat Njifenji says the Upper House of Parliament commends government and encourages it to move forward by giving support to all measures that have created conditions for the resilience of the country’s economy and the preservation of social cohesion.
He spoke in the presence of Prime Minister, Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute as he presided at the opening plenary sitting of the Senate for the June 2022 ordinary session. The Senate President  mentioned issues such as the Covid-19 pandemic, current threats to world peace and climate change that are creating unprecedented challenges for growth, security  and stability for all countries. He also talked of the noticeable upsurge in the prices of most products and the multiplication of social claims,  some of which, although legitimate, are being recuperated and manipulated by occult forces hostile to the institutions.
The Senate President considers the Budgetary Orientation Debate that will take place during the current session within the framework of the preparation of the Finance Bill for the 2023 Financial Year as an opportunity for the Senators. It will be an opportunity to help government identify all future investments, particularly in the fields of digital technology, infrastructure, research, education, and the catching up of the worrying  gap in energy supply.
Talking about celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the advent of the Unitary State in Cameroon, that took place on May 20, 2022, Marcel Niat Njifenji said, “The celebration was simple but beautiful.”  He said that despite the turmoil, separatist threats and assault on the integrity of Cameroon, the country “Is still standing and has continued, since November 6, 1982, under the enlightened leadership of H.E. Paul Biya, its march toward progress and emergence, with the adherence of the  vast majority of Cameroonians to this project of society and to the values  that he carries and embodies.”
