Cameroon-Equatorial Guinea : Border Security Agreements Exist

The agreements are intended to tackle common security problems along the borders of the two countries and other differences that may exist.

Cameroonian and Equatorial Guinean senior officials on July 21, 2021 in the Equato-Guinean capital, Malabo signed agreements on collaboration and joint action modalities of cross border security.  The Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, Joseph Beti Assomo signed for Cameroon, while Equatorial Guinea’s Minister of National Defence, Leandre Bakale Ncogo signed for his country.
With the agreements, Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea have to strengthen collaboration between cross border authorities so that concrete and effective solutions could be found to any security problems that may arise at the common borders. The defence forces of the two countries have to preserve the safety of the Gulf of Guinea, particularly in the border areas where pursuit actions are hindered by constraints of State sovereignty. As per the agreement, Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea have to strengthen defence and security cooperation based on the principles of national sovereignty, non interference in internal affairs, prohibition of threat or use of forces and peaceful settlement of disputes.
