Food, Nutritional Safety : Parliamentary Alliance In Place

The designation of the members and the putting in place of an executive bureau as well as members of the technical committee took place on June 8, 2022.

Within the framework of supporting government in improving policies to tackle hunger and malnutrition in the country, the Cameroon’s Parliamentary Alliance for Food and Nutritional Safety has been put in place. This was during an elective general assembly which held on June 8, 2022 at the Yaounde Conference Centre, current host of the National Assembly. Besides adopting the constitution of the alliance and its internal rules and regulations, a 16-member executive bureau was put in place alongside members of the technical committee. The House Speaker of the National Assembly was designated President of the Alliance and Senate President made Honorary President. Made up of lawmakers from both the National Assembly and the Senate, the Secretary General of the Alliance is Hon. Emah Etoundi. 
The putting in place of the Alliance is the result of an advocacy carried out by officials of the Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO), who hold that parliamentarians are the guarantors of political and economic commitments to achieve the “Zero Hunger” objective by 2030 as well as the inclusive and sustainable development of the country. The principal mission of the parliamentary alliance is fighting against food insecurity and promoting nutritional safety either through knowledge sharing or a change in institutional reforms.
