Social Security : Better Protection Of Migrant Workers In View

In order to better protect migrant workers and guarantee their interest in the area of social security, the Minister of Labour and Social Security, Grégoire Owona has defended before the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National     Assembly, a bill which prays the President of the Republic to ratify Multilateral Convention on Social Security of the Inter-African Security Conference (CIPRES) adopted in Dakar, Senegal on February 27, 2006. This was on June 15, 2022 in the presence of the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Relations with Assemblies, François Bolvine Wakata.
Highlighting on the importance of ratifying the bill to members of the Committee headed by Hon. Emmanuel Bamni, the Minister said it will enable Cameroon, which for several years has been committed to social security reforms, to continue seeking to optimize its social security system so as to align with international standards. “Cameroonian migrant workers, their families and where applicable, their survivors shall enjoy better social protection in the other signatory African States, notably concerning: old-age, disability and survivors’ benefits, sickness benefits, family and maternity benefits, and benefits for work accidents and occupational diseases,” partly reads explanatory notes of the Minister.
