Quarterfinals : Meritorious Teams Qualify

While group A and B are complete with Morocco, Senegal, Zambia, Cameroon and Tunisia qualifying, Group C, was at press time playing its last matches to produce its candidates.

The quarterfinals of the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) promise to be thrilling with the calibre of teams that have made it through. At the time of this report, Group A and B were already certain of their candidates. In Group A, the duo of Lionesses, Morocco and Senegal were the first teams to make it through. The Atlas Lionesses of Morocco qualified with nine points after winning all three matches of the group phase. A performance which has attracted a lot of admiration given that this is the first time the North African country is crossing the group stage of the competition. The Teranga Lionesses of Senegal were the second to qualify with six points after winning two matches and losing one. Burkina Faso and Uganda with one point each are thus eliminated from the continental showpiece.
Group B became certain of its candidates after day three matches were played on July 9, 2022. Zambia, Cameroon and Tunisia, are the teams that will continue the competition. Zambia picked their spot in the quarters after beating Togo 4-1. With this result, they top Group B with seven points, two matches won and one draw.
