n The Presidents of the two countries have met several times and there exist a well-structured collaboration between the two countries.
Cameroon and France, are two sovereign countries that share remarkable bilateral relations since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1960. The political capitals of the two nations host embassies of either States with resident Ambassador at the helm of diplomatic and consular affairs. There exist a legal framework that binds diplomatic and political cooperation between Cameroon and France. Promoting good governance and the rule of law, peace and security, human rights and democracy, are cardinal values that cut across political collaboration between the two countries that are both members of the International Organisation of La Francophonie.
At the top diplomatic level, the Heads of State of Cameroon and France have formally met 16 times counting from the era of President Jacques Chirac. President Paul Biya has personally participated in several forums organised in France such as the France-Africa Summit and the Paris Peace Forum in which he participated in the last edition which held on November 23-24, 2019.
Besides the diplomatically standard audiences prescribed by the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic and Consular Relations (presentation of lettres of credence and farewell audience when a diplomatic tenure is over), the President of the Republic has severally received the French Ambassador to Cameroon with the last audience being accorded Ambassador Christophe Guilhou on May 27, 2022. Other high level visits have been carried out by officials of the two countries.
All these visits and diplomatic actions are geared at further strengthening ties for the mutual benefit of the citizens of the two countries. There is a security accord that was signed between the two countries in May 2009 and France supports Cameroon in the fight against terrorism and shares military intelligence with officers.
