Supply of Petroleum Products : Gov’t Reflects On Adequate Solutions

Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute chaired an interministerial meeting to that effect yesterday July 21, 2022.
Measures geared at ensuring a stable supply of petroleum products in the local market have been brainstormed upon by government. The Prime Minister, Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute on July 21, 2022 chaired an interministerial meeting aimed at finding lasting solutions which will be submitted to the President of the Republic. Presiding at the meeting, the Prime Minister stated that the unfortunate conflict between Russia and Ukraine amongst others is affecting petroleum products supply. He noted that supply of the fuel for the last two weeks has been made possible by financial efforts of government to obtain progressive offloading of vessels in the Douala and Limbe ports. The interministerial meeting was therefore geared at finding adequate solutions to petroleum products scarcity at filling stations. To guarantee that the county’s public finances will be able to pay for the supply of these products, the Prime Minister noted that reflections were thus in the direction of examining perspectives of supply, and on the other hand examining progress made in simulating the possible increase of prices at pump, and on the other hand analyzing exchanges initiated by members of government with trade unions in the sector.
The Minister of Energy and Water Resources, Gaston Eloundou Essomba assured the public that government has taken measures to address the problematic supply of fuel witnessed by the market in the last two weeks. He noted that on the instructions of the Head of State, the Minister of Finance embarked on systematic disbursement of finances which led to the systematic uploading of vessels and at date, a reasonable quantity has been offload. “We are now managing logistic issues because we have to transport this fuel from the Douala depot to other internal depot points, notably Yaounde...
