Polemic Over Eto’o’s Legitimacy : FECAFOOT Provides Clarifications

The President of the Cameroon Football Federation, Samuel Eto'o Fils was on June 20, 2022 handed a 22-months sentence for tax fraud by a Spanish court. It was after this sentence that news began boiling on social media with several interpretations given to the sentence. Some saw it as making Eto'o ineligible to serve as President of FECAFOOT. 
It is against this backdrop that the Executive Committee of the federation in a release signed July 20, 2022 stated that “For Several days, erroneous information has been circulating on the media reporting the vacancy at the Presidency of the Cameroon Football Federation”. It clarifies that, “The Executive Committee of the Cameroon Football Federation is responsible for informing the General Assembly of the vacancy in the post of the President of FECAFOOT”.  “President Samuel Eto’o Fils, elected head of the Executive Committee of FECAFOOT on December 11, 2021, is therefore the right President of the said Federation and exercises his functions to the great satisfaction of the Executive Committee, the General Assembly and the great family of Cameroonian football,” the release added.
