Commonwealth Games : Two Boxers Secure Victories For Cameroon

Clotilde Essiane (-71kg) qualified for the quarterfinals and Albert Mengue Ayissi (-71kg) obtained a ticket to the eighth finals of the boxing competition in Birmingham.

The 2022 Commonwealth Games are in full gear. Three days in to the competition, the future seems bright for the Cameroonian athletes taking part in the competition. Two days after kick off the athletes started making their presence felt in the competition. During the second day of boxing at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games on July 30, 2022, Cameroonian athletes put up some standout performances. 
In the women’s 66-71kg light middleweight eighth final Clothilde Essiane beat Kimberly Gittens (Barbados) 5-0 on points at the NEC Plaza Hall 4. From the result, Clotilde Essiane qualified for the quarterfinals. In the men’s -71kg Light middleweight category round of 16, Albert Mengue Ayissi won 4-1 on points over Stephen Newns (SCO). He qualified for the eighth finals. Yegnong Maxime was expected to compete in the +92kg category in the eighth final. At press time yesterday the competition was still going on. 
In Swimming, Cameroon’s Milanessi Norah was eliminated in the women’s 50m Butterfly event at the Sandwell Acquatic Centre. In the men’s 50 Butterfly heats Charly Njoume Epoh finished 53 out of 54 with a time record of 30.28. He was therefore eliminated from the compe...
