Bafoussam : Journalists Drilled On Handling Media Debates

This was during a one-day workshop organized by National Communication Council on 5 September 2022.

A seminar on professional rules and practices as well as safety guidelines to be observed during audio visual debates in the media organized by the National Communication Council (NCC) held in Bafoussam on 5 September, 2022. The workshop that brought together journalists from the audio-visual houses, rural and community radios was coordinated by the president of the National Communication Council, Joseph Chebongkeng  Kalabubsu.

It had as resource persons retired veteran journalists like Kenneth Asobo, Marc Omboui and Guemda  Buinda.   Placed under the theme: “The responsibility of presenters in the conduct of audio-visual debates” the resource persons drilled participants, especially moderators of debate programmes, to watch out and avoid opening up space for guests and invitees to discuss issues out of the debate topics. The presenters or moderators were told not to ask leading questions and should remain studio police, because all legal instruments must be respected for individuals and public interest.    

Pressmen were reminded to always remain in control of their debates by ensuring that they meet their objectives and aspirations. To achieve this motive, the moderators should narrow their debate and stay focus on the topic of the day.
