Interview : “We Are Opening Secondary Roads to Ease Traffic”

Mayor, what is your vision at the helm of this important historic city of Buea?
As you know our projects are deliberated and agreed upon before execution. In any case, we know that traffic is a major concern in our municipality. So, we are trying to open up some secondary roads. As you can observe, we have done concreting of some roads and we are going to continue in that line. We asked for resources to bituminize some of the roads. The road from Bokwaongo Baptist Church Junction through Boassa-ikombe, Mapanja to Bojongo could be done to ease transportation in that area. Equally, we envisage opening up the road from BOCOM (Mile 16 Bolifamba) to Small Soppo and the neighbourhood so that those who have nothing to do in Mile 17 or Molyko can use this artery to access the upper section of the city.

 That is as far as roads are concerned. What about water?
There is this perennial problem of water. As it stands, we have done a couple of boreholes in Buea. We have taken pipe borne water to Mosaka Village and extended it to Ewili. We have supplied the villages leading to Buea Town area. We have given a bore hole at Street II, the un-tarred Malingo Street, Great Soppo, Bokwaongo, Bova One and other areas. We are in the process of providing some borholes for Bunduma and Koke communities for which we have called for tenders. We equally envisage changing the manual borehole around Molyko Omnisports Stadium to a solar driven borehole because manual boreholes are much more difficult to be exploited by the population.

What is being done about street lighting?
Again, I regret to say that we came and Buea was dark and we had to put street lights from Mile 14 to Buea Town and to the Hospital and other important places like Hotels. One year down the road, unscrupulous persons went and stole cables and the facilitie...
