International Peace Day : Calls For Tolerance Galore

Youth Affairs and Civic Education Minister, Mounouna Foutsou presided at the commemorative activities of the day in Yaounde on September 21, 2022.
Cameroon at the moment is faced with some security challenges in the East, Far North, South West and North West Regions of the country, coupled with managing the health threats following the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. It is thus against this backdrop of promoting peace for sustainable development in the country, that the Minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education Minister, Mounouna Foutsou, together with other stakeholders as he presided at activities marking the International Peace Day, commemorated every September 21, have multiplied calls for tolerance towards each other. This year’s activities are commemorated under the theme, “End Racism, Build Peace.” In attendance were United Nations agencies, members of civil society organisations and youths and the objective of the celebrations is to engage more women and young people in contributing to peace building, conflict resolution and humanitarian assistance.
In his preliminary statement, the Minister said to achieve lasting peace, stakeholders must build societies where all members feel they can flourish and stimulate a synergy of intelligence, skills and commitments of all actors. “Standing as one man, breaking down interpersonal barriers, fighting division, discrimination, tribalism, hatred, working hand in hand to promote tolerance and unity of hearts are goals for the commemoration of this year activities in Cameroon, which have seen the collaboration of the government, United Nations system, civil society organisations, youth organisations and the population,” the Minister stated.
