Children In Conflict : Brighter Prospects For Their Protection

Stakeholders in the juvenile justice system in the Centre Region are being trained on ways to better protect the rights of children in conflict and in contact with the law.
Children in conflict situations, as well as those found with their parents in prisons, children in detention centres and other arenas of the justice system in the Centre Region will henceforth see their rights better protected.
The stakeholders of the juvenile justice system in the Centre Region who include civil magistrates, defence and security forces and Penitentiary Administration staff started a three-day capacity building training workshop in Yaounde on September 21, 2022 at the end of which they will have adequate knowledge and skills on how to better protect children in conflict and in contact with the law. The workshop organised by the Ministry of Justice and funded by the Government of Cameroon within the framework of Cameroon-UNICEF Cooperation has as general objective to improve on the protection of children in conflict and in contact with the law by the stakeholders of the criminal justice system.
The Secretary General of the Ministry of Justice, Galega Feh Helen on behalf of the Minister of State, Minister of Justice and Keeper of the Seals, Laurent Esso presided at the opening ceremony of the workshop in Hotel YAAHOT in Yaounde on September 21. She told the participants that the Minister of State for justice attached a lot interest in the training. She said the theme of the workshop revolving around juvenile justice was timely considering statistics of children found in prisons, police and Gendarmerie custody and those involved in armed conflicts.
