Chantal Biya International Cycling Race : Cameroonian Victory Still Awaited

Damien Lapouges from French Team La Défense emerged winner while Artuce Tella was second during the third lap yesterday in Nkolandom.


Cameroon's victory at the ongoing Chantal Biya International Cycling Race is still awaited. The third lap of the competition took place along the Yaounde-Ebolowa-Nkolandom highway over a distance of 162.4km. A total of 58 cyclists competed in the race which is the longest in the competition. The cyclist rode past villages along the Equatorial forest. It was a difficult race given the quality of the riders.  Some 20km to the finish line, four cyclists had escaped from the group with Tella Artuce along them. Tella Artuce took the lead two kilometres to the finish line but was beaten in the final sprint. At the end of the race, Damien Lapouges from French Team La Défense was the winner with in 3h46' 47". Tella Artuce was second in 3h46'49" and Smits Florian from Netherlands was third in the same time record.  Islam Mansouri from Algerian National Cycling team maintained the yellow jersey. He equally went home with a cash prize of FCFA 250,000. The blue jersey for the best Cameroonian in the competition went to Tella Artuce of SNH Vélo Club.
