What is the situation on the ground?
I am confirming a case of monkey pox in the South West Region since October 7, 2022 in Kumba and Mbonge Health Districts. This is after samples were taken and analyzed at the Central Pasteur laboratory in Yaounde. It confirmed the presence of Monkey Pox virus. The situation is calm and we are reassuring the population that measures are being taken at different levels to see that we contain the pathology and reduce its spread.
How many people have been infected so far?
The notification came about two weeks ago. As of October 11, 2022, we have two suspected cases whose samples were taken. One turned out negative while the other was positive. As far as statistics in the field are concerned, there is one confirmed case of Monkey pox and the patient is isolated at the Regional Hospital Annex in Kumba.
What measures have been taken in order to curb the spread of the disease?
