Scramble for American Lottery : People Seek Greener Pastures

Ever since the DV lottery was launched on 5 October, most cyberspaces have been crowded with people trying their luck.


Most Cameroonians in Douala are bent on leaving the country for greener pastures in the United States of America. They are determined to do this through the Diversity Visa lottery which was launched in on October 5 and will end on November 8. Most cyber spaces are flooded with individuals and families of all ages to play the lottery and get the greed card.
The Diversity Visa Program (DV Lottery) is congressionally-mandated and allows up to 55,000 persons from nations that are historically under-represented in terms of migration to the United States of America to qualify each year for immigrant visas which are also known as Green Cards. The program is called the “Green Card Lottery” or “DV Lottery”, because the winners are determined through a random drawing from among the 10-12 million people who enter each year worldwide. The USA has randomly distributed 55,000 so called Green Cards in the DV Lottery every year since 1994.
According to Mr Bertrand P. whom CT met in one of the cyber café in Douala, he came with his four kids and wife to play the lottery.
