Renewal of Executive Organs : Sports Federations Getting Set

Following a recent circular of MINSEP stating that elections will run from November 5 to December 12, 2022, stakeholders are already working to see that the process moves smoothly.
Words will soon be matched to actions as concerns the renewal of executive organs of sports federations in the country. The Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, in a recent circular addressed to the different sports federations, stated that electoral operations for the 2022-2024 period will run from November 5 to December 12, 2022. This ministerial note, amongst several other directives, calls on federations to ensure that their statutes integrate certain provisions amongst which the existence or drawing-up, where appropriate, of an electoral code specific to each federation which guarantees the principles of democracy, fairness and transparency. The note as well indicates that an Independent Electoral Commission should be created within federations. The circular adds that the schedule of the process as well as the statutes of each federation with all registered applications, are expected no later than November 1, 2022. It is to meet up with these deadlines that the federations are on their heels.
The Cameroon Cycling Federation (FECACYCLING) for example, is very advanced as preparations towards the holding of these elections are concerned. A release signed October 17, 2022, by the Secretary General of the federation, Bruno Eloumou, reveals that the creation of a National Commission for the Organization of Elections of FECACYCLING was validated by the federation’s General Assembly in November 2021. The Commission, in a communique dated October 18, 2022, has called on potential candidates for electoral posts in the federation, to deposit their complete candidature files latest October 27, 2022.
