PIC North West : Ethical Compliance, Inclusiveness Code Of Conduct For Councils

The Office Of the Public Independent Conciliator (PIC), amicably settles some disputes from 62 Complaints, strengthens Council functioning with lessons on rights, duties and ethical Compliance.
Best practices in the functioning of Regional, City and local councils were take home lessons for Mayors during a seminar organized by the Public Independent Conciliator in Bamenda on October 27-28, 2022. The agenda featured Experts from the PIC with presentations to enhance and fast- tract delivery on rights, duties, ethical Compliance, Inclusiveness and citizen participation in the functioning of councils. Inspired by the commitment to ensure the effectiveness of councils as agents of local public service, the Public Independent Conciliator, Tamfu Simon Fai reminded participants of the role of the institution in the amicable settlement of disputes, promotion and protection of rights of citizens, users and beneficiaries of council services and enforcing ethical standards. Tamfu Simon Fai debunked some misconceptions that the PIC is around to police councils and seminar presentations deepened the understanding of the Mayors on the thematic mandate of the PIC whose role is summed up Pacification, watchdog and Advocacy for councils.
Ten months after the official launching of PIC activities on January 19, 2022, the institution has treated over 99 percent of 62 Complaints received and reached agreements with some. Tamfu Simon Fai sounded off about the success story and appealed for the collaboration of stakeholders for harmony to be achieved in communities.
