COVID-19 Response : Cameroon Felicitated For Commendable Efforts

“We came to encourage and congratulate the Minister of Public Health for the efforts made by Cameroon in response to the Coronavirus pandemic in general. And the efforts underway to boost vaccination. The Minister assured and confirmed to us that the level of preparations for the fifth vaccination campaign beginning on November 18, 2022 is high – including the technical details and political involvement. Especially the quality of activities put in place to ensure that the target population is reached,” said the Deputy Coordinator of the COVID-19 Vaccine Delivery Partnership, CoVDP, Dr. Richard Mihigo. 
He was speaking in Yaounde on November 16, 2022 after meeting the Minister of Public Health, Dr. Malachie Manaouda. Dr Mihigo is leading a CoVDP team to Cameroon. The delegation is in the country on a working visit from November 14-18, 2022. As the country prepares to embark on its fifth COVID-19 vaccination campaign from November 18-27, 2022. 
“We look forward to the successful implementation of the plan drafted by government with the support of partners like WHO, UNICEF, GAVI, USAID, CDC, etc, all working to support national efforts. What struck us most was the details the Minister gave as part of preparations for the campaign. The targets set for this campaign are quite remarkable. There has been a strategic shift by government, especially to focus on high-risk groups. This is a good move because those who are more at risk could be protected against the disease,” Dr. Mihigo noted.
“UNICEF is part of the global partnership promoting COVID-19 vaccination. We also supported preparations for the fifth COVID-19 vaccination campaign in Cameroon. The visit by the COVID-19 Vaccine Delivery Partnership delegation is to ascertain what has been done by Cameroon, how the response so far has been like, and to assess the challenges. I think Cameroon has done many positive things in the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic,” said Mrs. Nadine Perrault, United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF Resident Representative for Cameroon.
The COVID-19 Vaccine Delivery Partnership, CoVDP will continue to support Cameroon so that the population that has not been vaccinated gets vaccinated. We need to raise the number of people vaccinated. That is why we have the campaign beginning on November 18, 2022 to last 10 days. The aim is to get to the grassroots so that so that vulnerable people have access to vaccination,” Perrault explained.
The fifth COVID-19 vaccination campaign in Cameroon will be launched on Friday, November 18, 2022 by the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute in the Indoor Multipurpose Sports Complex, Wrada,
