Avoiding Budgetary Disequilibrium : Practical Modalities Examined

An exchange forum between members of the Finance and Budget Committee of the National Assembly and the Audit Bench of the Supreme Court held on November 17, 2022.
Due to the negative effects of a budgetary disequilibrium to the nation, stakeholders meeting on November 17, 2022 brainstormed on ways of ensuring a more balanced budget in income and expenditure for the 2023 State budget. This was during the 26th exchange forum between members of the Finance and Budget Committee of the National Assembly and the Audit Bench of the Supreme Court, held on November 17, 2022 under the theme, “The Problematic of Budgetary Disequilibrium.”
In her opening statement, the Chairperson of the Finance and Budget Committee of the National Assembly, Hon. Rosette Moutymbo Ayayi said the traditional brainstorming get-together translates their engagement to ensuring the diligent use of public funds. Cameroon, she noted, has faced several indigenous and exogenous challenges which have required additional public funds. The Ukraine-Russia war, the Chairperson noted, affected fuel prices across the globe, thus leading to an increased government subsidization of petroleum products, something which had an impact on public funds. Accelerating the decentralisation process which requires increased allocation of resources to regional and local authorities, reconstruction of the North West, South West and Far North Regions, the lawmaker added, are some elements which in recent times are being incorporated to the regular budget of the State to fast-track development. “The development of our country is imperative on the diligent management of public fi...
