Serbia : Starring At The Barrel

Avoiding defeat against the Indomitable Lions is of utmost importance for a team that has crashed out at the group stage in four of their last five World Cup tournaments.

For Serbia, it’s a case of avoiding lightening to strike twice. In 2018, they were in the same group like Brazil and Switzerland.  Back then, they lost their first game two nil to Brazil before losing 2-1 to Switzerland to crash out of the tournament. Four years later, the scenario is almost repeating itself. They lost their first game to Brazil two nil and a slip up against Cameroon will most certainly send them crashing out of the tournament. Reacting after last Thursday’s defeat to Brazil, Serbian striker, Aleksandr Mitrovic said it was better to lose against Brazil (their most difficult game) while looking forward to get maximum points from their next two against Cameroon and Switzerland. The in-form Mitrovic comes into the tournament on the back of an injury that almost threatened his participation at the tournament but is looked upon as one of the main players to fire the Eagles past the group stage of the tournament. His strike partner Dusanc Vlahovic is also a weapon for the team if they decide to play with two strikers upfront.
