Nigeria : Campaign To Fight Gender Violence

For sixteen days, the different stakeholders will organize activities aimed at raising public awareness.

UN Women, the United Nations organization dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women has launched a 16-day campaign against gender-based violence in Lagos. During the campaign that kicked-off on Friday, November 25, 2022 on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, hundreds of UN Women will organize more than 10 activities to raise awareness of the need to end gender-based violence.
Speaking to the press, Alessandra Vellucci, Director of the UN Information Service in Geneva,
quoted the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres as saying that “Violence against women and girls is the most pervasive human rights violation in the world. Now is the time for transformative action that ends violence against women and girls.”
A UN report made public recently showed that, globally 81,000 women and girls were killed last year, 56 percent of them by intimate partners or members of their families.
