Media Centre : Fizzing Effervescence!

Into the third week of the tournament, it is safe to say the media activities have dropped as the teams are progressively being knocked out.

It doesn’t take a magic eye to notice the once buzzing main media centre of the Qatar National Convention Centre, QNCC is gradually becoming less busy. Close to 22 teams have already left Qatar after they were eliminated from the tournament so too are media professionals following suit as the tournament gradually winds down to its end. On a cool Monday morning ahead of the penultimate matches of the round of 16 (Croatia v Japan and Brazil v South Korea), the main media centre at the QNC rather looks very quiet, compared to the first weeks of the tournament. Very few press conferences or media activities were on schedule.
However, a contingent of Brazilian journalists was present as some filed in reports back home while others engaged in discussions around a cup of coffee probably guessing Tite’s line-up for the game or checking on Neymar’s fitness. “We came here to cover the entire tournament because we hope Brazil will be going all the way through to the final,” Junior Pedro, a Brazilian journalist working for Globo Esporte said. In another corner of the hall was equally a number of Moroccan journalists gathered waiting for their head coach Walid Regragui to arrive ahead of the pre-match press conference for the game against Spain.
