MTN Elite One : Astres Resumes With Victory

The MTN Elite One championship has effectively resumed after about one -month break due to the 2022 FIFA world Cup in Qatar. The first game to mark the resumption pitted Yafoot against Les Astres of Douala at the Olembe Annex A Stadium yesterday December 20, 2022. It was equally the first game counting for match day eight in Group B of the competition which halted on day seven.  
The Douala-based club added three points to the six they obtained before break by winning Yafoot 2-1.  Prolific headers from Ivan Djantou (23’) and Rodrigue Tchatchoua (87’) helped to seal the victory for Coach Tonye Tonye’s side. The first minutes of the game did not produce much intensity as both sides evidently lacked the steam coming from a long break. But as play progressed, the intensity improved. The two teams played hard having several opportunities but it was Astres that got the breakthrough at the 23rd minute.  Astres continued domination but Yafoot’s defensive abilities as well as their offensive moves showed that there has been a sharp improvement in the team as compared to when they had kicked off the championship.  Their struggle to equalize failed in the first half.
