A Noble Fight

Since the coming to power of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, things seem to be on the right direction in Somalia. Even though there has been a few attacks that have unfortunately led to the loss of many lives, the fight against the Somali-based, al-Qaida-affiliated Islamist militant group al-Shabab is reaping fruits. In recent clashes between the Somali National Army and al-Shabab militants, the Somalian administration under the auspices of President Hassana has put up a very strong fight, while the population have turned their backs against intimidation from the militias. After a meticulous preparation of a strong military front that saw the liberation of southern Jubaland from the hands of the militants, government’s new approach is being encouraged by the resistance of local clan who can no more tolerate the extortion, abduction of their children, imposing harsh ideology, arresting local teachers and traditional leaders by the al-Shabab.
