North West : D. O Consoles Gayama IDPs

The Subdivisional Officer for Fungom, Abdoulahi Aliou visited victims of the recent clashes between separatist fighters and Fulani herdsmen from Nigeria which led to the loss of lives and property in Gayama, a border town with Nigeria. He made an on-the-spot donation of FCFA 50, 000 to the over 200 IDPs who fled to Esu.
According to the Subdivisional Officer, trouble erupted when separatist fighters killed two Fulani herdsmen in an attempt to extort money from them in the name of taxes. The herdsmen went back to Nigeria and sought for reinforcement and came back to Gayama for revenge. In the process they killed four separatist fighters, burning down their camp but went further to burn houses and destroy the farms of innocent people, causing everyone to flee the area. Some went to Nigeria, others to neighbouring villages such as Akum while the bulk of them fled to Esu.
